Where to Stay for a Wildcat Off-Road Park Riding Trip: Inside a Rider-Focused Cabin

Wildcat Pondside Basecamp: Rider-Focused Cabins Near Wildcat Off-Road Park

If you’re planning a multi-day trip to Wildcat Off-Road Park, finding somewhere to sleep is easy.

Finding somewhere that actually works well for eight people arriving with trucks, trailers, SxSs, muddy boots, helmets, coolers and several days of riding gear is a different story.

That’s the idea behind Wildcat Pondside Basecamp (WPB) in East Bernstadt, Kentucky.

We didn’t set out to build a luxury resort.

We set out to create a comfortable, practical basecamp where a group of riders can park, unload, ride, come back dirty and tired, clean everything up, eat a good meal, relax and get a good night’s sleep before doing it again tomorrow.

Our philosophy is simple:

Ride Hard. Rest Easy.

Here’s what you can expect when staying at Wildcat Pondside Basecamp.

How Close Is Wildcat Pondside Basecamp to Wildcat Off-Road Park?

Location matters when you’re hauling machines.

WPB is located on Hazel Patch Road in East Bernstadt, Kentucky, convenient to Wildcat Off-Road Park and the surrounding trail system.

The property is approximately:

4.1 miles from the main Wildcat Off-Road Park entrance

2.8 miles from the Hazel Patch trail entrance

Approximately 700 feet from an entrance to the local Outlaw trail system

That gives riders several options depending on where and how they plan to ride.

Wildcat Off-Road Park itself offers a large trail system spread across roughly 2,000 acres, making it a destination where many riders want more than a single day on the trails.

WPB was designed around those multi-day riding trips.

Sleeps 8 Riders — In Four Real Queen Beds

One decision we made early was not to cram as many people as possible into the house just so we could advertise a bigger sleeping capacity.

Wildcat Pondside Basecamp accommodates up to 8 guests with four actual queen beds.

No bunk beds.

No air mattresses.

No asking one unlucky member of the group to sleep on a couch.

The home has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms.

Two of the queen beds feature 12-inch hybrid mattresses, while the other two use 10-inch memory-foam mattresses. Beds are finished with comfortable bedding and down duvets.

After spending all day getting bounced around on a trail, we think where you sleep matters.

8 riders. Four real queen beds.

Two Living Rooms Give Your Group Room to Spread Out

Eight adults can make even a reasonably large rental feel crowded.

That’s why one of our favorite features of WPB is having two separate large living areas.

One gives the group another place to sit, talk and relax.

The primary TV room includes a leather sectional, a 75-inch Roku TV, surround sound with a subwoofer and views toward the deck and pond.

There are also 43-inch Roku TVs in each bedroom.

That means the whole group doesn’t have to agree on what to watch after riding.

Somebody can watch the game in the main living room while somebody else watches a movie in a bedroom.

Or everybody can turn the TVs off and head outside.

Pull-Through Truck and Trailer Parking

A vacation rental can have a beautiful kitchen and comfortable beds and still be a terrible choice for an off-road trip if parking wasn’t designed for trailers.

That’s why parking has been one of our biggest priorities.

WPB features substantial gravel parking designed around trucks, trailers and machines, including pull-through capability.

The goal is simple:

Pull in. Unload. Ride. Load back up. Pull out.

You shouldn’t have to turn trailer backing into the first technical obstacle of your Wildcat weekend.

Covered SxS Parking

Your machines are an important—and often expensive—part of the trip.

WPB includes dedicated covered SxS parking, giving machines a designated place when you’re back at basecamp.

It’s another example of something that might not matter much at an ordinary vacation rental but makes considerably more sense at a property designed specifically around riders.

A Dedicated SxS and Gear Wash Area

Wildcat can send you home with some souvenirs.

Usually they’re attached to the bottom of your machine in the form of Kentucky mud.

WPB has a dedicated SxS and gear wash area with a commercial pressure washer so riders can knock off the day’s mud instead of hauling all of it home.

Clean the machine.

Rinse muddy equipment.

Deal with the mess here instead of discovering it again after you unload at home.

That’s what we mean when we call WPB a basecamp instead of simply a rental.

Commercial Speed Queen Laundry

The same philosophy continues inside.

WPB has commercial-grade Speed Queen laundry equipment.

After a muddy riding day, throw your riding clothes in the washer instead of sealing them in a trash bag for the drive home.

Laundry detergent and bleach are supplied.

The washer provides options including quick cycles, pre-wash, soaking, extra rinses and adjustable soil settings.

The dryer includes automatic moisture sensing and selectable dryness levels.

It’s also an important part of our turnover process because these machines allow us to thoroughly wash and refresh a large amount of the property’s washable items between guests.

Cleanliness isn’t an exciting amenity to photograph.

But it’s one of the most important things we provide.

16 Quality Bath Towels for Your Group

Eight people shouldn’t be fighting over towels.

WPB is stocked with 16 quality bath towels, providing two per guest at maximum occupancy.

And because the commercial Speed Queen laundry is right there, your group can quickly wash towels during longer stays if needed.

It’s a small detail.

Those small details add up.

A Boot and Glove Dryer for Tomorrow’s Ride

Wet boots aren’t nearly as much fun on day two.

WPB includes a PEET boot and glove dryer so wet riding gear has somewhere to go after returning from the trails.

You’ll also find practical gear-management features throughout the property, including hooks, boot trays, luggage racks and storage areas.

Helmets need somewhere to go.

So do jackets, boots, gloves, bags and everything else eight riders bring with them.

We’d rather give that equipment a home than have it piled across chairs and floors.

A Kitchen Designed for Actually Cooking

Some rentals technically have a “full kitchen.”

Then you arrive and discover one frying pan, a dull knife and three forks.

We want groups to be able to cook actual meals.

WPB’s kitchen is stocked with cookware, utensils and everyday cooking essentials, along with appliances for preparing group meals.

There’s also a Weber Spirit 325 grill outside.

One of our favorite ways to use the kitchen is also one of the simplest: start something in the crockpot before riding and come back to dinner waiting.

That’s a lot better than figuring out where eight hungry, muddy riders are going to eat at the end of a long day.

Coffee for a House Full of Riders

Morning can arrive early when everybody wants to hit the trails.

Our dedicated coffee area includes two full-size 12-cup coffee makers and 12 colorful coffee mugs.

Why two coffee makers?

Because this house sleeps eight adults.

We’ve met enough coffee drinkers to know one pot can disappear pretty quickly.

Get the coffee going, make breakfast, look over the trail map and figure out where today’s ride is taking you.

A Commercial Ice Maker

Coolers and riding go together.

WPB includes a commercial ice maker capable of producing approximately 100 pounds of ice per day.

It’s one of those amenities that’s easy to overlook until you’re filling coolers for an entire riding group.

Instead of starting every morning with another ice run, you’ve got serious ice-making capacity right at basecamp.

The Dining Table Becomes Your Group Command Center

Our large SERWALL dining table isn’t just somewhere to eat.

Think of it as the WPB ride-planning command center.

Spread out the trail maps.

Drink the morning coffee.

Plan the day’s route.

Eat dinner together.

Play cards.

Talk about tomorrow’s ride.

And debate which member of the group made the most questionable decision on today’s trail.

Some of the best parts of a riding weekend happen when everybody gets back together after the machines are parked.

A 20×20 Deck Overlooking the Pond

The experience changes when you step outside.

WPB has a 20×20 deck overlooking our private managed pond, giving the group a large outdoor space for relaxing before or after riding.

Grab your coffee in the morning.

Sit outside after dinner.

Or just enjoy having somewhere peaceful to recover after spending hours on the trails.

The pond isn’t intended to simply be scenery, either.

Catch-and-Release Fishing at Our Managed Pond

Our pond is actively managed and stocked, including largemouth bass, bluegill and catfish.

Guests can enjoy catch-and-release fishing during their stay.

We maintain the pond with aeration and an ongoing management program designed to support a healthy fishing environment.

It’s an entirely different pace from riding Wildcat.

That’s exactly the point.

Spend the day making noise and throwing mud.

Spend the evening beside the water.

Pondside Firepit and Free Firewood

When riding is finished, one of the best places at WPB may be the simplest.

Head down to the pondside firepit, grab an Adirondack chair and settle in for the evening.

We provide free firewood for our guests.

There’s no need to make another supply run just because the group wants a fire.

This is where riding stories get better as the evening gets later.

Four Roku TVs, Wi-Fi and Plenty of Indoor Comfort

Kentucky weather doesn’t always cooperate with your plans.

That’s why the indoor experience matters too.

WPB has Wi-Fi along with four Roku televisions:

One 75-inch Roku TV in the main living area

Three 43-inch Roku TVs—one in each bedroom

Combined with two large living rooms, this gives the group plenty of options when everybody wants to relax indoors.

Two Full Bathrooms for Eight Guests

WPB has two full bathrooms.

Our goal with the bathrooms isn’t to impress guests with unnecessary luxury.

It’s to make sure they’re exceptionally clean, properly stocked and practical for a group coming back from the trails.

Expect good towels, toiletries, convenient hooks and the basics your group actually needs.

Hot shower.

Clean towel.

Fresh clothes.

Then figure out who’s cooking dinner.

What Wildcat Pondside Basecamp Is — And Isn’t

Setting expectations is important.

WPB is not a luxury resort.

It isn’t a downtown hotel.

And we’re not trying to turn it into an amusement park filled with unnecessary amenities.

Wildcat Pondside Basecamp is a comfortable, well-equipped private property in the Kentucky countryside designed especially for people coming here to ride.

You’re coming to an area known for off-roading.

Machines get muddy.

Riders get muddy.

You’ll see rural Kentucky.

You’ll hear nature.

And depending on when you visit, you’ll experience Kentucky weather doing whatever Kentucky weather has decided to do that day.

That’s part of the experience.

Our job is to make everything surrounding your riding trip as easy and comfortable as we reasonably can.

Why We Call It a Basecamp

There’s an important distinction between somewhere to sleep and a basecamp.

A rental gives you a bed.

A rider basecamp supports the entire trip.

Where does the truck go?

Where does the trailer go?

Where do we park the machines?

Where do the muddy boots go?

Can we wash the SxS?

Can we wash our riding clothes?

Can eight people actually cook breakfast?

Is there enough ice for the coolers?

Where do we put our helmets?

Can everybody get a good night’s sleep?

What do we do after riding?

Those are the questions we’re trying to answer at Wildcat Pondside Basecamp.

Who Is WPB Best For?

WPB is especially well suited for groups of friends, couples and adult riding groups of up to eight people who want a comfortable private basecamp near Wildcat.

It’s particularly useful for groups bringing trucks, trailers and their own machines because so much of the property has been planned around the logistics that come with them.

And although riders are our primary focus, you certainly don’t have to spend every minute of your trip on a SxS.

Fishing, relaxing around the pond, grilling, sitting around the fire and simply spending time together are part of the experience too.

Planning a Multi-Day Wildcat Off-Road Park Trip?

Wildcat Off-Road Park has enough riding that it’s worth thinking beyond where you’re going to sleep.

Think about the entire trip.

Where will you park?

How will you handle muddy equipment?

Where will wet gear go?

Can the group cook together?

What will everyone do after riding?

And most importantly, will everyone be comfortable enough to wake up ready to do it again?

That’s what we’re building Wildcat Pondside Basecamp around.

Park the trailers.

Unload the machines.

Ride Wildcat.

Wash everything down.

Grab some food.

Head to the pond.

Sit around the fire.

Sleep in a real queen bed.

Then wake up and do it all over again.
